Services

Equal Human Rights (EHR) empowers individuals and communities through education, advocacy, and opportunity. The organization offers scholarships and internships focused on Human Rights and STEM fields, supporting students, researchers, and emerging professionals, particularly those from refugee, immigrant, and underrepresented backgrounds. In addition to advancing education and ethical research, EHR actively advocates for individuals in need, working to protect dignity, expand access to resources, and promote human rights through lawful, compassionate action.

Iran: Ongoing Crackdown on Fundamental Rights

In Iran, protests have continued into 2026 following long-standing grievances over political repression, economic hardship, and violations of basic freedoms. Large nationwide demonstrations began most recently on 28 December 2025, sparked by rising inflation, severe shortages of essential services, and broader demands for dignity and fundamental change.

The Iranian government has responded with a violent crackdown, including the unlawful use of force by security forces, lethal weaponry against peaceful protesters, and mass arbitrary arrests. To conceal abuses, authorities imposed a near-total internet blackout, restricting communication and preventing outside scrutiny.

Independent research by Amnesty International and UN bodies has documented widespread and systematic violations including killings, torture, enforced disappearance, arbitrary detention of protesters, journalists, women and girls, and severe repression of dissenting voices. These actions have been described as amounting to crimes against humanity under international law.

The crackdown has continued patterns seen since the 2022 “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising triggered by the death in custody of Mahsa Amini and has led to significant loss of life, fear, and widespread human rights abuses without accountability or transparent investigation.

ICE Enforcement & Human Rights Concerns

In the U.S., immigration enforcement by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has become a central human rights issue. Federal immigration operations, especially under current policies, have drawn national protests and legal scrutiny following fatal shootings of individuals by federal agents and widespread concerns about accountability, use of force, and civil liberties.

Interior immigration enforcement operations such as Operation Metro Surge saw thousands of people arrested, including U.S. citizens, and sparked major civil rights debates.

Detention conditions at facilities like Camp East Montana (Fort Bliss) have been criticized by human rights organizations for physical and sexual abuse, medical neglect, solitary confinement, intimidation, and deaths in custody, prompting calls for closure and reform.

Because federal immigration agents cannot easily be sued under existing civil rights laws, accountability for abuses—including deaths during operations—remains limited. This has intensified public concern and expanded protests in cities across the U.S., with activists demanding real oversight, policy changes, and respect for human rights in immigration enforcement.
